Assoc. Prof. Ivana Prkačin, PhD

Specialist in dermatology and venereology, with a focus on dermatologic oncology and medical cosmetology.

Assoc. Prof. Ivana Prkačin enrolled in the University of Zagreb School of Medicine in 2003 and graduated in 2009. In February 2011, she began her residency in dermatology and venereology at the Clinic for Skin and Venereal Diseases, Sisters of Mercy University Hospital Center. During the 2012/2013 academic year, she attended a postgraduate professional course in dermatovenereology and also enrolled in the PhD program 'Biomedicine and Health' at the same faculty.

She passed her specialist exam in dermatology and venereology on March 12, 2015. After completing her residency, she was employed at the same institution and has since worked as a specialist in dermatology and venereology at the Clinic for Skin and Venereal Diseases. On June 17, 2019, she defended her doctoral thesis at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine titled 'Prevalence of BRAF gene mutation in dysplastic nevus and melanoma in situ', under the mentorship of Academician Mirna Šitum and co-mentorship of Assistant Professor Ivan Šamija.

Her scientific and professional interests lie in dermatologic oncology and medical cosmetology. On October 23, 2019, the Committee for Biomedicine and Health appointed her to the academic rank of Research Associate, based on the proposal of the University of Zagreb School of Dental Medicine. During the academic years 2019/2020 to 2022/2023, she lectured in the subjects of Anatomy and Dermatovenereology at the University of Applied Health Sciences in Zagreb. She gave an inaugural lecture and was appointed as a lecturer at the Department of Dermatology and Venereology on June 4, 2020, and since 2020 has also held several lectures and seminars on the subject Medical Humanities at the School of Medicine in Split.

On June 17, 2020, she gave her inaugural lecture at the School of Medicine in Split and became an Associate Professor at the Department of Humanities. She is a regular lecturer at the University of Applied Health Sciences in Zagreb.

On November 21, 2023, she passed the subspecialist exam in dermatologic oncology, during which she attended a postgraduate specialist study in oncology and radiotherapy. She has authored and co-authored numerous scientific research articles and presented about thirty conference abstracts. At the Mlinarska School of Nursing, she taught dermatovenereology and participated in organizing congresses and symposia at the Clinic for Skin and Venereal Diseases. She has completed many dermatovenereology courses organized by the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) and was awarded an EADV scholarship for residents and specialists.

She has been an invited speaker at multiple international conferences and congresses and has completed various international courses and training programs in dermatology, aesthetics, and cosmetology.
