Ognjen Zrinšćak was born in Zagreb, where he completed his primary and secondary education as well as medical school. He completed his ophthalmology specialization in 2007 at the Eye Diseases Clinic, Sisters of Mercy University Hospital Center, where he works in the Department for Oculoplastic and Orbital Surgery.

He completed a subspecialization in eyelid and orbital surgery in 2017, and another in neuro-ophthalmology in 2019. His clinical work primarily focuses on diseases and surgery of the eyelids, orbit, and lacrimal system, as well as periorbital plastic and reconstructive surgery. He also treats retinal diseases and neuro-ophthalmological conditions. He has undertaken additional training in Munich, Mainz, Frankfurt, Manchester, and Vienna, and completed advanced courses in oculoplastic and microsurgical eye procedures in Vienna, Schruns, Berlin, Leipzig, Munich, and Amsterdam.

Throughout his career, he has been actively involved in research and has participated in numerous international and national scientific and professional conferences. He is the author and co-author of over 50 conference presentations and more than 20 scientific articles, and co-author of 3 book chapters. Since 2014, he has been a lecturer and organizer of the Course on Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery of the Ocular Adnexa, accredited by the Croatian Medical Chamber.

He completed his postgraduate doctoral studies at the School of Dental Medicine, University of Zagreb, and defended his doctoral dissertation in 2022 titled 'Validity Assessment of an Eye-Tracking Device for Strabismus Screening.' He is a member of the Croatian Medical Association, the Croatian Ophthalmological and Optometric Society, and sections for orbital, plastic and reconstructive surgery, and pediatric ophthalmology. He is also a full member of the European Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ESOPRS).
