Assoc. Prof. Vesna Ramljak, PhD

Specialist in clinical cytology with a focus on tumor cytodiagnostics.

Assoc. Prof. Vesna Ramljak became a specialist in clinical cytology in 1995 and has spent her entire career at the Sisters of Mercy University Hospital Center. From 2011 to 2018, she headed the Center for Clinical Cytology at the Oncology Clinic, and from 2018 to 2022, she led the Department for Oncologic Pathology and Clinical Cytology at the Ljudevit Jurak Clinical Institute.

Since 2022, she has been Head of Cytology Department II at the Ilica location, Ljudevit Jurak Clinical Institute, Sisters of Mercy UHC.

In 2007, she completed a scientific postgraduate study at the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb, and defended her master’s thesis titled 'Presence of Ki-67 and p27Kip1 Proteins in Breast Cancer and Benign Lesions.'

In 2010, she defended her doctoral dissertation titled 'Expression of Matrix Metalloproteinase-2 and Hypoxia-Inducible Factor-1 in Breast Cancer' at the same faculty.

In 2010, she also completed a postgraduate specialist study in 'Health Management.'

She holds the academic title of Associate Professor at the School of Medicine, University of Split.

She is a senior lecturer at the University of Applied Health Sciences in Zagreb, in the field of biomedicine and health sciences, specializing in histology, embryology, and cytology.

She also holds the academic rank of professor at the same institution.

Her primary interest is tumor cytodiagnostics, especially breast and thyroid tumors, immunocytochemical features of tumors, and the application of new diagnostic methods in cytology, including immunocytochemistry and molecular biology.

She is the president of the Croatian Forum for the Fight Against Breast Cancer – Europa Donna.

She is the president of the Section for Interventional Cytology of the Croatian Society for Clinical Cytology, Croatian Medical Association.
